Letter
of recommendation conventions |
|
The effectiveness of your recommendation
will increase if its presentation conforms to the conventions of
business writing. If you rarely write letters or are unfamiliar
with this style, follow the suggestions below to achieve a more professional
appearance. |
|
1) Use a conservative font such as Arial, Times New Roman or
Verdana. The font size should be 10 to 12 pt.
2) Ensure borders are 1 to 1 1/2 inches on all sides.
3) If you do not have paper with a letterhead, insert your
name, title, organization, and address at the top of the page.
4) Date the letter and address it "To Whom It May
Concern" followed by a colon.
5) Leave equal space between each paragraph.
6) For the complimentary close use "Sincerely," or "Yours Truly,". Repeat your name and title
below your signature. Preferably use a good pen with black ink
to sign your letter. |
